H.O.T. DBR laser diodes

Meeting the demand for mobile applications requires special attention to the size and power requirements of the product. Photodigm’s latest innovation is the HOT™ (High Operating Temperature) DBR, which reduces power consumption by operating at an elevated temperature so that only resistive heating be used to maintain lock to a spectroscopic transition. The HOT device eliminates the need for a thermoelectric cooler by relying on a combination of laser self-heating and resistive heating to maintain a stable operating point.

X-Mode™ DBR laser diodes

Photodigm has recently introduced a new product, the X-Mode™ DBR, which combines the best attributes of a DBR laser with the tuning characteristics of a DFB. This breakthrough is a result of Photodigm’s extensive experience in the design and operation of laser diodes. By careful design and thermal management of the device, Photodigm’s X-Mode DBR will operate with a continuous wavelength range of 2 nm when tuned by temperature or current.

DBR laser diodes with VPS lens

Photodigm has developed a virtual point source (VPS) lens, specifically designed to correct the astigmatism and reduce the divergence of the fast axis. This proprietary micro lens is mounted on the submount, and contained within the package of choice. The resulting free-space beam is a near-Gaussian, slightly diverging, slightly elliptical beam that can be focused or collimated as needed with a single asphere.

Space-Qualified DBR Laser Diodes

Photodigm has completed its first campaign on high reliability space qualified DBR laser diodes in the Mercury™ and butterfly packages. The design and process of Photodigm’s space qualified LDs follows a rigorous evaluation plan for quality and reliability assurance. The qualified devices completed endurance and mechanical stress tests that are compliant to both MIL883 standards and the specific requirements of interplanetary and low earth orbit missions.

Spectroscopy-Certified DBR Laser Diodes

Photodigm is the world's leading producer of DBR laser diodes resonant with atomic and molecular transitions in the near-IR spectral band. Spectroscopy-Certified laser diodes are fabricated, tested and packaged for critical applications. Their narrow linewidth and high stability enable high resolution spectroscopy and precision metrology.
